We are a small, independent school catering for autistic children aged between 5-16 who may have a range of additional needs.
Everything we do revolves around the individual needs of each child attending our school, with the aim that every learner is able to fulfil their potential.
Along with our rich and varied curriculum, we focus on developing core life skills such as communication and social ability, sensory processing and emotional regulation. Every pupil develops the essential capabilities they need to be as independent as possible when they leave school.
We use a range of best practice strategies and interventions to deliver highly individualised learning opportunities for our pupils, combining core National Curriculum subjects within an overarching, bespoke autism-specific curriculum.
We are ambitious about what each of our pupils can achieve, regardless of their starting point, and take pride in recording, sharing and celebrating the progress they each make as individuals.
Partnership is key to the success of Maple Grove. We work closely with parents and carers, therapists, and local authority and medical colleagues to ensure that each pupil accesses the right package of support to meet their needs.
We have a ‘Total Communication’ approach to ensure that all pupils are supported at all times, by all staff, to develop and extend their social communication skills. We make extensive use of our locality to enhance and enrich pupil learning experiences, including visits to the nearby allotments, Alexandra Park and local businesses in the bustling Chester suburb of Hoole
Maple Grove was originally the site of Hoole and Newton School, which was built in 1912. The building has been carefully restored and refurbished, creating a calm and inviting environment combining the old-world charm of an historic building, with modern, carefully planned learning spaces suitable for specialist learning.
In addition to our bright and spacious classrooms, we have a sensory room and several flexible spaces in which we can deliver enriched curriculum opportunities catering towards meeting individual needs.
Outside, we have spacious grounds including a recently resurfaced playground, a separate grassed play area, sensory gardens, and smaller enclosed courtyards for individuals and small groups.
